Social Stability Monitor Midst the Current war
The Socio-Economic Justice Initiative-MAAN
Introduction
Amid multiple wars in the region that almost elevates to be called regional war, and with all the political and compiled social division, social stability in Lebanon remains at stake. The current fragility is rooted back primary to the civil war and in which Lebanese society was divided into groups and regions that serve the interest of the ruling class and ruled by a confessional system that demolished any possibility of building citizenship and belonging to a united state. Currently, the war that erupted more than a month ago and is still escalating has led to a series of crises across Lebanon. The number of the internally displaced people (IDPs) exceeded 1.4 million from the South, Bekaa, and Beirut, students are facing an unknown future of their education, youth are emigrating, businesses are calling for their bankruptcy, and hospitals in war zones are going out of service. Eventually, the multiple factors are damaging the Lebanese social fabric and destroying social stability in Lebanon. Different approaches and narratives have been spread among the hosting and the displaced communities and they both show solidarity and support and the hate and blame resulting in embracement of some groups while conflicts and closing of others. It is crucial to investigate and analyze the local and national social stability to build and push for the political effort that reform and protect social fabric in Lebanon facing the extreme and polarized context.
